We’ve all felt in over our head. School assignments that are a little too hard, workloads that are a little too heavy, bills that are a little too much, a diagnosis that is a little too scary. Can these struggles actually be good for us?
Endurance through hardship allows us to uncover how real our faith is.
Having faith is not often glitzy and perfect. Faith is often hard. In the middle of hardship, we can struggle to believe the Lord has our best in mind. The author of Hebrews encourages his readers to remember and continue in the way they responded to their struggles with joy and confidence when they first became Christians (Hebrews 10:32-35). Endurance through hardship allows us to uncover how real our faith is. During stressful seasons, we can feel God’s presence more clearly and find help from Christians we never thought would care. When we believe God even when life is tough, our faith grows a deeper trust in our hearts for Him.
Faith is resting in what God has done for us in the past, and trusting Him to move on our behalf in the present and the future — even through the struggle.
Often faith will be messy and hard. Do not despise the struggle. Allow faith to grow in the midst of hard times.
Reflect:
- How have you seen God grow your faith in hard times?
- What is one way you can still pursue a relationship with Jesus even when times are tough?
- Do you know someone who is struggling? What is one way you can encourage that person today?
